Dessa

Local artist Dessa came and spoke to us about promotion recently and it was very insightful. She talked about one of the first things that you need is a press list. These are very useful in learning about the different outlets throughout the area you are in. Another thing that you need is a good bio. Along with the bio and press list you need a good photo that shows them who you are. Between the photo and the bio they should be able to gain enough info for them to start gaining interest in you. You must also make sure that your photo can be shrunk down and preferably be in black and white. Promotion is very important and there are many elements to promoting yourself successfully. I am excited to start promoting myself and will use all the tips that Dessa gave us.

Sean McPherson

Sean Mcpherson came and talked to our class today and it was very interesting. He started out by telling us a little about himself and his strengths and weaknesses. Which he followed up by asking us about our own. For me one of my weaknesses was the same that he had which was the technical side of music as in knowing the fundamentals of music like terminology and then also knowing it right on the spot. Another one of mine was my experience compared to everyone else and how I still have a ways to go to be were they are now. I found it interesting to learn some of the other strengths and weaknesses that everyone else had. I was surprised to find that a lot of people are not very good or confident at talking to different people like business managers and that. When I find that I enjoy communicating with different people and showing them who I am and my personality. Sean then went around and addressed some of the things we were talking about and told us stuff from his experiences.  Another thing he talked about was his trivia that he does and how that sprouted from just doing trivia at a bar and how you never know when opportunities going to strike or how it will come. One thing that I thought about during that was that I believe that if you put yourself out there and you don't go out and perform for the sole purpose to have something come from it, that something will eventually come when you don't expect it. I found Sean very insightful and I am excited to gain more experience and put my self out there and I hope I can have the success that he has.
